In July 2017, a Brazilian woman named Suelen Schaumloeffel and her fiancé decided they wanted to adopt a dog.
The couple headed to their local shelter and quickly fell in love with an eight-month-old puppy named Lana. Before she came to the shelter, Lana had been living on the streets. But despite her tough beginnings, the puppy was still as sweet as could be.
Lana quickly took to life at her new house.
The puppy loved cuddling with her new parents. She also enjoyed hanging out in her doghouse in the backyard. Lana typically hung out in the doghouse while her parents were at work. She also slept in the doghouse—in Brazil, it’s common for dogs to sleep outside.
One chilly winter night, Suelen decided to buy a thick new blanket for Lana to help her stay warm. Suelen put the blanket down in Lana’s doghouse and then headed inside to go to sleep.
The next morning, Suelen’s fiancé went outside to check on Lana. He was amazed by what he saw.
There was a homeless dog sleeping right outside Suelen’s yard. Lana had noticed the dog, and it seemed like she was worried he was cold. And so, she dragged her new blanket to the fence and shared it with the stray dog!
Suelen was amazed by her puppy’s act of kindness.
“I thought, ‘How beautiful what she did for her friend,'” Suelen told The Dodo. “My best four-legged friend reminded me of something so important: generosity!”
Suelen tried to approach the dog to see if he had an ID tag, but he ran away before she could reach him. She sometimes sees him around her neighborhood, but he still always runs away before she can help him. She has started putting out water and food for him, and he gratefully eats it.
Lana is always excited to see the stray dog!
“She is the nicest little dog I’ve ever met,” Suelen said. “We forget sometimes the difference we can make in someone’s life. She reminded me of this.”
Suelen posted a photo of Lana and the homeless dog on Facebook, and it quickly went viral. The photo has been shared over 27,000 times, and it has thousands of comments. Everyone is amazed by this little dog’s act of generosity.
“Seeing the friend without a home and cold, Lana did not hesitate to share the blanket. She took it to the fence and offered a piece to her friend,” Suelen wrote on Facebook. “Each on one side of the fence, but both warm. I swear that when I saw this record I was moved. I was so overwhelmed by her generosity!”
Lana is a sweet dog who loves helping others! This dog is a truly kindhearted creature.
