This tore my heart to pieces.

With how much we love our pets, it’s absolutely sickening to think of how many in this world are abused, neglected, or don’t have a home.

One video that surfaced online several years back really tore the internet’s heart to pieces. It featured a puppy named Kayne who’d been taken into a shelter. Sadly, the dog had suffered such horrific abuse that even a simple touch caused him to have a tear-jerking reaction.

While the footage was difficult to watch, the story didn’t end there.

The video was filmed at the Breasta Animal Shelter in Romania, where rescuers were there to care for the mistreated and helpless creatures.

Kayne was just a pup when he was saved from the life of cruelty he’d been living. Although it’s unknown exactly what kind of pain and suffering he went through – his reaction to human touch speaks volumes.

A woman named Monica Mitreanu was the first to share the video online. The popular animal site, The Dodo, then released their own version that provided viewers with some details.

At the beginning of the clip, poor Kayne is huddled in the corner of his pen. He looks malnourished and completely terrified of the woman trying to pet him. Yet, it’s the “screams” that come out of his mouth that might be the most disturbing.

The woman is being gentle and sweet with the dog, trying to use a soft hand. But while most dogs would enjoy the attention – Kayne is so bothered by her touch that he can’t control his fright.

From what it seems, he’s never once felt a “loving” hand before and only knows abuse. As The Dodo explains:

“This puppy is feeling kindness for the first time.”

She refused to give up.

Knowing how to work with animals, the woman continues to pet Kayne with a loving approach. At first, he howls and cowers down. But after a short time, there seems to be a breakthrough and he slowly becomes more receptive to her touch.

She tells him,

“It’s okay, my poor baby … Everything will be okay.”

Incredibly, the next scene shows a calm Kayne being held in a rescuer’s arms. It’s completely night and day.

But it gets even better.

Although Kayne lived his short life going through abuse, it doesn’t keep him from rising above it all (thanks to his rescuers). He’s shown playing with other dogs and a human-friend, making it the best ending to a video that tore at the internet’s heart. It also explains that he feels “safe and happy” and “has the life he’s always deserved.”

The video ends there, leaving some to wonder if there was an update afterwards. Fortunately, there was!

Kerry Wollacott is a woman with a heart of gold that helps rescue dogs over in Romania. According to The Dodo, she created a Facebook post that gave an update about Kayne and his situation. Apparently, he had a new family he was traveling overseas to live with.

She wrote:

“I’m sure you all remember the now famous crying pup, his video was spread far and wide his scream tugging on everyone’s heart strings. Well here is little Kayne he’s just had a visit to the vets to have his vaccinations ready for him to leave Romania on the 17th Dec to start his new life in the UK.”

Wollacott also shared a photograph of Kayne with some four-legged friends… What a difference!

Unfortunately, there haven’t been more updates since this one, which came a few years ago. Hopefully, though, Kayne is well-loved and living a beautiful life with his forever family!
